Oh, my pocket hurts again. Ableton Live 7 is coming right at us, and it seems to be a worthwhile upgrade. New instruments, useful new features and all that. In this particular version, I feel Ableton has prepared an upgrade aimed more at producers than DJs (while v6 seemed the other way around, at least for me). Totally worth it.
The problem is that while it IS worth it, it’s still expensive - specially for me and all other people that doesn’t get paid in dollars or euros. Don’t get me wrong, the Abes deserve it, but I think they should care more for their long-time users. I’ve been using Live since v1.0 (no render function, remember?) and each upgrade is more expensive. FL Studio, on the other hand, offers free lifetime upgrades for all registered users - pretty cool. Ableton could do the same at least for the base software, since they’re releasing new instruments and seem to have the intention to keep doing this in the future.
It’s true that I’m one of the very few brazilians that actually bought it instead of getting a cracked torrent. It’s also true that lots of people think I’m a sucker for buying software at all (I agree sometimes - I spend most of my time on Linux using 100% free software and keep Windows only for music production), but I’m a customer - and also an Ableton Live teacher, by the way. Isn’t my fidelity worth something?
