Madonna’s total lack of creativity

I guess most of you still remember the Madonna vs. Pet Shop Boys mash-up I did some time ago, right? The two songs were so similar that I could simply crossfade between them and call it a day.

Now, this is pop music. People borrow ideas from others all the time, right? There’s really nothing wrong with it. Besides, there are only so many chord progressions and catchy melodies that you can play on the radio to make the recording company’s focus group happy. Lots of people say this is why most pop music suck, but to be popular means to please a really big number of people, which inevitably means lowering your standards. But I digress.

Some time ago I listened to yet another Madonna single, Sorry, and noticed something familiar: a bassline. A bassline so blatantly ripped from other song that I almost made another mash-up, but couldn’t find a good acapella (yet). Anyway, I thought I should do something, so there you go:

Madonna – Sorry (clip)

The Jacksons – Can You Feel It? (clip)

I’m convinced Madonna’s Confessions on the Dance Floor is a concept album… the concept being “every track is a ripoff of something else”. :-)

E bons advogados, naturalmente.

Close… but no cigar. Madonna’s bass line seems more like a deconstruct/reconstruct of The Jackson’s bass line. Kind of the same way Get Together incorporates The Music Sounds Better With You. Just my opinion though
